My Background
A life-long resident of Lancaster County, I reside in East Petersburg, PA on Lemon Street (thus the name of my studio!). I've spent my career in advertising and marketing, working as an art director and creative director for various ad agencies before starting my own advertising business, MDM Creative, Inc, in 2002, which I continues to operate. Having worked in the digital realm for years, I am an expert in PhotoShop (digital manipulation software) and also have decades of design experience, which provided the basis for the beginning of my artist journey.
My First Digital Art Painting
A few years ago, I was viewing photos of a vineyard in France taken by my in-laws. I saw in the photos the possibility of a scene that did not exist except in my imagination. Wanting to create a special image for my wife who was born in France, I began to cut and re-assemble various elements of the photos, eventually creating the image that I had originally envisioned. This original digital painting was presented as a Christmas gift for my wife. (See photo at right.)
The Beginning of Lemon Street Studio
Pleased with the result, I began to explore this type of artist expression which opened up a completely untapped area of creativity that I had never even realized existed. I purchased a camera and began to take original photos with an eye towards creating digital paintings, initially creating about a dozen paintings of local scenes from the photos. After showing the results to an artist and photographer friend and receiving encouragement to continue my artistic journey, Lemon Street Studio LLC was born.
My Inspiration
My subject matter includes the beauty of Lancaster County, especially farmland, the Susquehanna River and the Veteran's Memorial Bridge connecting Columbia and Wrightsville PA, but I also create paintings from wherever my travels take me.
My inspiration comes from the grandeur of nature, the softness of a foggy morning or the beauty that I see all around me, especially in my own back yard. My digital paintings ultimately capture the scene that is not necessarily in my viewfinder, but what I imagine it ultimately could be in my mind’s eye.
In addition to selling my work online, it is available at the John Wright Restaurant Real Food Emporium in Wrightsville, PA. My wife and I also take part in a variety of juried art shows during the year.
I hope you enjoy the work!
