What is a Digital Art Painting?
Digital imagery has created a new world of possibilities in artistic imaging and creation. When viewing my work, many people ask the question, "Is it photography or a painting?" The answer is "Yes!" My paintings are a combination of 2 digital technologies utilized in creative ways.
Each of my original digital art paintings begins as an original digital photo. Once an image is selected to be the beginning of a painting, an entirely new level of creativity begins. Using sophisticated software and much creative vision, images are digitally altered, edited, cut, resized and otherwise reimagined to create the digital painting you see. My final paintings are not necessarily the scene that was captured in my viewfinder, but what I imagine it could ultimately be in my mind's eye. The only creative difference between paintings that I create using digital technology and a "traditional" painting are the tools that are utilized. My camera is my sketch pad, my brush is a mouse and my palette of paints are pixels.
The final digital painting is then printed on high quality canvas or fine art paper using the Giclee printing method, rendering an image that most times is indistinguishable from a traditional painting. The utilization of archival inks and high quality materials creates a final piece of art that will remain color fast and beautiful for years.
